New heat record in India: 52.3 degrees
Northern India has been experiencing a heat wave for several weeks. On Wednesday, a heat record was set in New Delhi.
The temperature rose to 52.3 degrees in New Delhi on Wednesday, the highest temperature ever recorded in India. The previous record, 51 degrees, was measured in 2016 in the desert of Rajasthan.
Not only did the thermometer set a record, so did the power consumption. Demand could be met by solar power during the day, but there were power shortages in the evening due to the use of air conditioning and fans.
