Massacre in US high school: perpetrator (14) already questioned 1 year ago
On Wednesday, two students and two teachers were killed in a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, a community east of the US city of Atlanta. Nine people were wounded, including eight students and one teacher.
The shooter is a 14-year-old boy who himself takes classes at the school and listens to the name Colt Gray. He already had to answer to police once last year for threats. He surrendered Wednesday when police officers took him at gunpoint at school. Colt Gray is now charged with murder and will be treated as an adult.
The gun the shooter used was an AR-15 type. The FBI and ATF are investigating the case along with local and state agents.
Alerted by phone?
Someone allegedly called the school Wednesday morning, saying there would be shootings in five schools. Apalachee would be the first where there would be a massacre. Police immediately investigated and decided there was no threat. But that turned out differently. Who made the call is not yet clear.
The school is mourning the loss of students Mason Schermerhorn (14) and Christian Angulo (14), and math teachers Richard Aspinwall (39) and Christina Irimie (53).
