Major crisis about to hit Germany
On Wednesday, German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, took the radical step of dismissing his Finance Minister, Christian Lindner (leader of the Liberal Democratic Party).
It's a decision that Germany's Minister of Economy, Robert Habeck, considers “the right one”, while assuring that the country is still capable of functioning. In an interview with Deutschlandfunk, he claimed that Lindner had not lived up to the task of drawing up a budget. He then lost respect of his peers and other members of the German government. "In this respect, the Chancellor's decision was logical. It was consistent and necessary at this stage", he declared.
By dismissing Christian Lindner, the German Chancellor has shattered Germany's ruling coalition and, at the same time, paved the way for early elections. The decision comes after months of disagreement over the economic and budgetary policies of a government that has become widely unpopular, and could lead to a major crisis, reports L'Indépendant.
