Hundreds of dead begin to wash ashore in Valencia
Emergency services are busy recovering bodies on the beaches in and around Valencia. A lot of people were swept for kilometers and also lost their clothes due to the violent current. Identification is therefore proving difficult since they no longer have documents in their pockets.
According to experts, everything indicates that the bodies were carried away by the Turia and Júcar rivers, which flow into the sea near these beaches.
Body dogs, drones and helicopters are also being used to comb an area from the mouth of the Turia River in Valencia to Brosquil beach in Cullera, 50 kilometers south of the hard-hit city. This includes a search of the Albufera Natural Park, a huge freshwater lake just off the Mediterranean Sea.
The death toll from the devastating floods currently stands at 213. There are also 1,900 people still listed as missing in the Valencia region.
