Father gave 14-year-old gun as Christmas present: boy causes carnage at school
Colin Gray (54), the father of Colt Gray (14), has been arrested for giving his son a gun as a Christmas gift, after the two had previously already been questioned over threats about a school shooting. It would be the first time that a parent has been arrested for a shooting by a child in the state of Georgia.
14-year-old Colin Gray was arrested and charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children.
According to police sources, Colin Gray told investigators that he gave the AR-15 rifle used in the shooting as a Christmas gift to his son in December 2023. That is months after Colin and Colt Gray were questioned by the police because of online threats about a school shooting.
On Wednesday, two students and two teachers were killed in the shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, a municipality east of the American city of Atlanta. Nine people were injured, including 8 students and 1 teacher.
The shooter is 14-year-old Colt Gray, who himself attends the school. It was only his second day at the school. Last year he had to answer to the police for threats regarding a 'school shooting', together with his father. Still, his father decided it was a good idea to give him a gun for Christmas. He surrendered on Wednesday when police officers took him at gunpoint at school.
