Concern over fate of undressed Iranian student
Ahou Daryaei, the 30-year-old Iranian student who stripped naked in protest following an altercation with security guards, has been admitted to psychiatric care. The Iranian authorities deny having brutalized her.
Brave, and no doubt shocked by remarks about her outfit and an abusive application of the compulsory veil by security guards, Ahou Daryaei demonstrated her disapproval outside her Azad University in Tehran by stripping down to her underwear on November 2, 2024. The student, mother of two, was then taken away by police officers for “immoral” conduct. The images went viral around the world. This obviously embarrassed Iran, which couldn't hide the act of resistance in question.
Confirmation from the authorities
Iran's Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Hossein Simaei, confirmed the reason for the arrest on Wednesday. He confirmed that Ms. Daryaei had engaged in “behavior that isn't based on Sharia law, is immoral and contrary to customs”. However, according to the minister, she was not expelled from her university. Iran denies any brutality against her! The university also reacted by stating that “the motives and reasons for this student's act are being investigated”.
Interned
According to NGOs concerned about her fate, she was forcibly hospitalized in a psychiatric ward. Opponents of the regime and numerous organizations abroad deny the allegations of a possible mental disorder in this French language student. They are following the situation closely, putting pressure on the Iranian regime.
