Artificial intelligence dangerous for women

For the 20th anniversary of its awareness campaign in favor of natural beauty, the Dove brand reveals the conclusions of a study “conducted worldwide among women and young girls”. If women are still subjected to the pressure of “ideal beauty”, it turns out that this notion is increased by the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

AI, between heaven and hell…

As we know, AI is an excellent crutch for human activity, it stimulates creativity, promotes inclusion, supports learning, advances medicine… But, like some playing cards, it has a double face. The dark side? In the situation that concerns us, namely the representation of natural beauty, AI is a real threat. With 90% of digital content being generated by artificial intelligence by 2025, this emerging technology posesses a real threat to both women’s mental well-being and self-esteem.

According to the study’s findings: “3 out of 10 women feel pressure to change their appearance because of what they see online, even if they are aware that these images are fake or generated by AI.” Artificial intelligence builds and reinforces unrealistic beauty standards and, through the content generated, intensifies the lack of representation of natural beauty. Furthermore, “according to 4 out of 10 women, the ability to create different versions of themselves using AI can have a negative impact on their self-perception.”

Another door open to all forms of complexes.
