"Trump will hold on to the White House for the rest of his life"

American novelist Jerome Charyn writes in a column in Le Monde: "November 5th could be the date of the last legitimate election in the United States."

The American writer expresses his concern in the event of a new victory by Donald Trump, who risks governing the country as if it were his own private company, with his family members and close friends installed in his government.

The writer writes:

"Trump failed in his first coup attempt in 2021. [For the 2020 presidential election], he had developed a scheme to find fake electors, but the plan didn't work, thanks to Mike Pence, his vice-president, who, in a gesture of resistance, certified the number of voters in each state."

"Yet Trump didn't give up. He encouraged the Proud Boys and other white supremacists to storm the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021, to try to hang Mike Pence and knock out Nancy Pelosi, the then Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives, so that he could continue to reside in the White House, as the victim of a rigged election.

Today, for the American novelist, the risk of the United States falling into a dictatorship really exists:

"Donald Trump announced that his horde of "Make America great again" followers had to come and vote for him on election day because they wouldn't need to vote afterwards."
