Trump elected: many Americans want to leave US
Statistics on the searches users typed into Google show that a lot of Americans are thinking of leaving the US.
Following the election of Donald Trump as the new US president, searches related to emigrating from the US spiked enormously. The query ‘Moving to Canada’ saw an increase of a whopping 1,270 per cent in the 24 hours after it became clear that Trump had defeated Kamala Harris.
‘Moving to New Zealand’ (+2,000 per cent), ‘moving to Australia’ (+820 per cent), ‘moving to the UK’ (+375 per cent) also became hugely popular search terms on Google.
Even Scandinavia appears to be an alternative for many Americans: the command ‘move to Norway’ saw a 438 per cent increase. ‘How to move to Europe' rose by 1,566 per cent, while queries about 'moving to English-speaking countries' increased by 1,328 per cent.
