The secret that united Trump and Putin during COVID
During the pandemic, Donald Trump discreetly supplied COVID tests to Vladimir Putin while Russia was facing a shortage in 2020.
In his latest book, journalist Bob Woodward revealed that the American president sent COVID tests to his Russian counterpart for Putin’s personal use. Vladimir Putin then asked Donald Trump to keep this information confidential, saying: "People will go crazy."
The book also explains that the relationship between the two political leaders continued even after Trump left the White House. The duo reportedly spoke at least seven times.
Although Russia and the U.S. exchanged medical equipment during the pandemic, Donald Trump's decision to send COVID tests directly to Vladimir Putin would likely have caused a stir if the story had leaked to the press.
Despite Trump's defeat by Joe Biden in the last presidential election, the two men have kept in contact. Bob Woodward noted that earlier this year, Trump instructed one of his aides to leave his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida so he could privately call Vladimir Putin.
