Surprise in the Kremlin: Putin reorganizes ministries
Sergei Shoygoe will be removed from his post as Defense Minister after two years of war in Ukraine. That decision was communicated Sunday evening by the Kremlin.
Russian news agencies reported Sunday evening on the surprising government reshuffle suddenly implemented by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Newly fired Sergei Shoygoe had been defense minister since 2012 and is a longtime Putin ally. Shoygoe will replace Nikolai Patrousev as Security Council secretary. The Security Council should be led by a citizen "open to innovation and advanced ideas," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Shoygoe will also be given a seat on the Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation. Nikolai Patroeshev, in turn, will be given another position, but it is not yet known which job he will be assigned. Putin in turn nominated former Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov (65) for the post of defense minister. Parliament has yet to approve these new appointments, but there is virtually no opposition in Russia.
