High-risk trip for Vladimir Putin

Vladimir Putin is expected to attend the G20 summit in November in Brazil and could face arrest, according to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andriy Kostin.

Andriy Kostin claims Ukraine has information about a possible visit by the Russian leader to South America, even though he is under an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Russian president is accused of playing a role in the deportation of thousands of Ukrainian children.

As a signatory to the Rome Statute, Brazil is required to arrest anyone under an ICC warrant, and Andriy Kostin expects Brazilian authorities to act accordingly.

"Given the information that Putin may attend the G20 summit in Brazil, I would like to reiterate that it's an obligation for the Brazilian authorities as a state party of the Rome Statute to arrest him if he dares to visit," he said in an interview with Reuters.
