Germany allows military to shoot down suspicious drones
Germany will authorize its military to shoot down unidentified drones attempting to spy on its military bases.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his cabinet are set to approve an amendment to the Aviation Security Act on Wednesday. This change will grant the military the authority to destroy suspicious drones to prevent accidents or attacks.
Until now, authorities have been using technology to block drone transmitters, but some drones have proven resistant to these methods.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius agreed on the measures after drones were detected in restricted airspace.
The proposed amendment does not specifically name any countries, although nations like Russia and China are suspected to be behind these recent incidents.
