Gap between Trump and Harris remains
A week after her debate against Trump, Democratic candidate maintains her lead in the polls.
48% of votes for Kamala Harris against 45.4% for Donald Trump, figures that come less than two months before the American elections indicating a short lead in voting intentions.
However, these figures must be qualified. Indeed, as BFMTV points out, the American election is not played by direct universal suffrage. The candidate that obtains the most votes is not necessarily the one who will be elected. This was notably the case in 2016, when Hillary Clinton had collected nearly 3 million more ballots than Donald Trump, it was indeed the latter who had acceded to the presidency.
BFMTV reminds us that to be elected president, a candidate must have the plebiscite of at least 270 electors. "Each state has a number of electors corresponding to the number of its representatives in Congress." The uncertain states (7 in number), called swing states, are often those that change everything. In 4 of them, the Democratic candidate is in the lead. The gaps remain very small.
