War declared between Dua Lipa and...Taylor Swift
Interviewed on the 60 Minutes show, the British composer and singer Dua Lipa didn't hesitate to criticize artists who use and exploit their private life to sell records. A statement that Internet users saw as a direct attack on Taylor Swift.
The musician was stern: “Some people are so ruthless with their private life that they decide to spill it out in a song, because they know that it will attract people’s attention.” She continues by explaining her vision of music. “For me, it has always been important to make music that people really liked, not because I was putting someone on the spot or because I was doing it to create clickbait at someone else’s expense.”
The so-called Swifties, die-hard fans of Taylor Swift, immediately jumped into the fray, interpreting these remarks as an open criticism of their favorite singer, well-known for referencing her past relationships in her songs. “Yes, I’m going to risk saying that it was a thinly veiled, albeit harmless, attack on Taylor Swift,” one Internet user said. Another wrote: “Hasn’t Dua Lipa always shown a certain lack of respect for Taylor Swift? She seems like the Katy Perry 2.0 in the Swiftverse,” drawing on the old feud between the two artists.
Has war been declared? To be continued...
