"Taylor Swift falls from her pedestal"
Eminem's latest album recently dethroned Taylor Swift from the top of the charts. A success that was widely celebrated on social media.
After 12 weeks, Taylor Swift's "The Tortured Poets Department" has finally fallen from the top of the charts. It was the release of Eminem's "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)" that caused it to drop. The singer's fans did not fail to celebrate the event!
Top 3 Release
According to AP news, Swift's success with "The Tortured Poets Department" makes her the first woman to hold the number one spot for this long. She broke Whitney Houston's previous record for her 1987 album Whitney (11 weeks at number one). Today, the country singer has fallen to fourth place.
A Victory on Merit
While some Eminem supporters simply posted their excitement or pride on social media, others specifically praised the fact that he took the No. 1 spot from Swift.
“She doesn’t deserve it,” one Reddit user posted, referring to the series of bonus tracks Swift released. “If she wasn’t trying to inflate her numbers like crazy and did it on the merits of the music, I’d accept it.” X, former Twitter user, wrote, “Eminem saved music by stopping a soulless ‘money-hungry woman’ from stealing a record from the most soulful album of all time.”
To balance things out, some people pointed out that Swift has covered Eminem’s music in the past, hoping to avoid pitting the two fanbases against each other.
