Born on 5 May: Ian McCulloch (Echo and the Bunnymen)
Born on 5 May 1959 in Liverpool (of course), the Bunnymen's charismatic lead singer, Ian McCulloch, with his distinctive head of hair, is celebrating his 65th birthday today.
Since the 60s, notably with the Beatles, Liverpool has played a major role on the English music scene. From Frankie Goes To Hollywood to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, from Teardop Explodes to Pale Fountains, from Christians to La's, from Dead or Alive to China Crisis, from Gerry and The Pacemakers to Big in Japan, from Boo Radleys to The Coral, there are countless artists and bands born on the banks of the River Mersey.
Echo & The Bunnymen, who recently toured Europe to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of their ‘Ocean Rain’ album (arguably their best), are obviously one of the city's most emblematic bands.
