Total panic after US bomb explodes at airport
On Wednesday, October 2, around 8am, there was a near-miss at Miyazaki Airport in Japan. An American bomb dating from World War II exploded near a runway.
66 flights were canceled, the area was completely evacuated, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. According to local authorities, the American bomb caused a crater of 7 meters in diameter and 1 meter deep on the runway. Just seconds before the device, a relic of World War II, exploded, a plane had just taken off.
The Japanese Self-Defense Forces' bomb disposal unit was mobilized to the scene to conduct the investigation. The area is being closely monitored to ensure everyone's safety.
In 2011, two unexploded bombs from the United States were discovered at this airport, which served as an air base for the Imperial Japanese Navy. Another one was found in 2021.
