Pilot has heart attack in mid-flight...wife takes control
It was a miracle that happened in the skies of the United States on October 4th.
Eliot Alper, a 78-year-old pilot, was at the controls of a small tourist plane when the tragedy occurred. During the flight between Las Vegas and Monterey (United States), the pilot suffered a heart attack, prompting his wife, Yvonne Kinane-Wells, to show extreme courage.
Panicked and with no experience of flying, Yvonne Kinane-Wells took control of the aircraft and followed the instructions of the air traffic controllers that were communicated to her to the letter. It was a feat that the sixty-year-old achieved by managing to change course and land at Bakersfield airport without any damage.
Her husband was then able to be rushed to the hospital, his condition not yet known since he was taken into care, reports Midi Libre.
For his part, the director of Kern County Airports warmly congratulated the impromptu pilot: "To my knowledge, this is unprecedented. I have never seen anything like this in my entire career. Yvonne, you are a hero for having managed to land this plane safely and without incident despite so much stress."
