Numerous soldiers land in the south of France: Bad omen?
From October 7th to the 18th, the French city of Port-Vendres, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, is and will be the scene of a major military exercise: CUTAWAY 24.
In total, 150 soldiers, including 50 French and American mine clearers, are participating in the major exercise. CUTAWAY 24 consists of a maritime and port mine clearance set up by the French Mine Warfare General Staff, reports Actu.fr. The operation is organized every two years and has been doing so for almost 10 years. In 2022, at the CUTAWAY 22, the city of Port-Vendres had welcomed a large number of soldiers with a view to "opening the port to guarantee the possibility of docking a merchant ship in the port".
To combat mines and explosive devices
The Mediterranean maritime prefecture specifies that “the 2024 edition is specifically focused on combating mines and explosive devices in port environments to develop mine clearance tactics, techniques and procedures that can be used in port environments in an external operation scenario”. It will therefore be a question of being able to conduct operations to combat explosive devices on a national, multinational or NATO scale.
Four military ships will be mobilized for this operation.
The scenario?
The military finds itself in a post-conflict situation between the Red country and the Blue country and must organize a coalition intervention within the framework of a United Nations resolution to secure and demine the port of Port-Vendres (located in the Blue country).
