Mercedes sold at crazy price at Bonhaus auction
During the Zoute Grand Prix, in the Belgian seaside resort of Knokke-Heist, a Bonhams auction broke records. Notably for the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss from 2010.
Every October, the auction has become a tradition on the seafront and beaches of Knokke in Belgium: luxury and collector cars cross paths and camp there for a weekend (from Thursday to Sunday). As a highlight, the Bonhams is organizing an auction of prestigious cars. The social and collectors' event lived up to its expectations this Sunday, October 6, with 22 million under the auctioneer's hammer. This year's 15th edition of the Belgian automotive event has thus become the most important auction the world.
A "Belgian" Porsche and an SLR
Three gems in particular set the auctions alight. First there was a 2011 Aston Martin One-77 that sold €1.44 million. Then there was a 1956 Porsche 550RS Spyder. This racing car drove for the “Belgian National Team”. It remains on its home turf since it was bought for €2.53 million by a private Belgian collector, present in the room. The other exceptional car was the red Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss that is illustrated in this article. This 2010 car far exceeded estimates: €3,220,000.
75 copies
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss was only produced in 75 copies. This open-top car is powered by a 5.4 l supercharged V8 of 650 hp. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. Its top speed is set at 350 km/h. This red model with gold brake calipers sold in Knokke is, moreover, the very last product of this model. And one of the few that isn't gray. The cherry on the cake: it only has 50km on its clock. Which explains the madness during the auction and the final price exceeding 3 million!
