Ghost driver barefoot and in pajamas causes deadly tragedy

Last Saturday was a dark day on the roads in Belgium. Saturday morning, in fact, a confused woman mowed a family off the road while driving on the opposing lane.

A 25-year-old woman had to answer to the police court in Kortrijk, West Flanders, on Friday for driving under the influence of drugs. There she made a confused impression, could barely construct a coherent sentence and seemed blood nervous. She would have had a lot of problems and might have been eligible for admission to a psychiatric hospital. But it didn't come to that. She wreaked havoc first, fatally.

The 25-year-old woman got into her car Saturday morning barefoot and in pajamas. In Menin, she tried to attract the attention of an oncoming car. She admonished the puzzled oncoming car to stop and confusedly shouted “I need help.” The oncoming car advised her to notify emergency services. That advice could not convince the 25-year-old woman, after which she rammed the oncoming car and abruptly drove away, heading for the A19.

Just then, a family was on their way to amusement park Plopsaland by car. The 25-year-old junk drove onto the A19, ignored the many prohibition signs and then collided head-on with the family's car near Zonnebeke. The impact was immense. The family's 63-year-old father was instantly dead. The wife and one of their two teenage daughters are seriously injured in the hospital. They had to be freed from the wreckage. The mother was still in mortal danger in the hospital Sunday night.
