The “worst storm of the century” hits the United States
The images are frightening. On Wednesday evening, Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida. As a category 3 hurricane, this could be “the worst in a century,” declared the President of the United States, Joe Biden.
An hour after hitting the west coast of Florida, Milton was reclassified as a category two hurricane, reports L’Indépendant.
Incredibly powerful winds and rain of rare intensity, the videos published en masse online and in local media are terrifying. Currently, the cities of Tampa, Fort Myers and St. Petersburg are the most impacted. The inhabitants of St. Petersburg are also terrified by rains “that we see once every 1,000 years,” indicates CNN. The equivalent of three months of rain fell in just three hours.
Due to significant flooding, authorities have issued an alert and called on the population to seek refuge in higher grounds, the New York Times reports.
