Last chance: Florida residents urged to flee as historic Hurricane Milton looms
Florida residents have received a final call to evacuate as Hurricane Milton nears the state’s west coast.
With the storm's strength fluctuating between Category 4 and Category 5, the National Hurricane Center predicts that Milton will be "one of the most destructive" storms Florida has ever experienced.
As it approaches the coast, Hurricane Milton continues to intensify, and winds could become even more severe, the National Hurricane Center warned.
Local and federal authorities have urged remaining residents to flee the area to avoid the worst, as torrential rains and significant storm surges are expected.
In southern Florida, several small tornadoes have already been spotted.
Republican Governor Ron DeSantis warned in a press conference that the hurricane will have "catastrophic" consequences for Florida, even if its intensity decreases.
