Zelensky's surprising announcement
On Monday, in an interview with the American channel ABC News, Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine was “close to the end of the war”.
Excerpts from this interview have just been broadcast. The Ukrainian president specifies: “I think we are closer to peace than we think. We are closer to the end of the war.” Statements that come on the sidelines of his meeting with Joe Biden, to whom he decided to present his “victory plan,” aimed at putting an end to the Russian invasion.
According to Volodymyr Zelensky, Kiev must adopt a “firm position” to encourage Putin to “end the war.” The Russian president stressed that negotiations would only be possible if “Ukraine ceded parts of its territory in the east and south of the country and renounced joining NATO,” reports France 24. For his part, Zelensky continues to call for the withdrawal of Russian armed forces from the occupied territories in Ukraine and the reestablishment of post-Soviet borders.
