Washington's peace plan for Ukraine
Former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States and head of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, Valerii Chalyi, spoke to RBC Ukraine about the conflict that is gnawing away at his country.
He believes that Washington is working on a peace plan between Russia and Ukraine:
"It may not be a complete strategy, but it's certainly a plan. What does it imply? Firstly - and by the way, the United States probably only realized this a week after the full-scale invasion - it's about avoiding a direct confrontation with Russia.
Secondly, it's about avoiding involving NATO, because it would be a very difficult test for America, and they don't know whether they would pass the test.
Thirdly, it's about preventing a Russian victory over Ukraine and ensuring the survival of Ukraine - maybe not with all its territory, but as a sovereign and independent country. So this plan doesn't aim at the pure victory of Ukraine."
