War looms as North Korea ramps up nuclear programme
North Korea informed the United Nations that it intends to accelerate its nuclear program, just days after successfully testing intercontinental ballistic missiles.
During a Security Council meeting, Kim Song, North Korea’s ambassador to the UN, said that his country would intensify its efforts to "counter any threat posed by a nuclear-armed country."
The meeting was held in response to recent intercontinental ballistic missile tests aimed at showcasing North Korea’s military strength.
The United States and Ukraine have warned that nearly 8,000 North Korean soldiers stationed in Russia’s Kursk region could join the front lines in the coming days.
"The nuclear threat of United States against [North Korea] has already reached critical point in terms of its scale and danger. Due to reckless moves of the United States, the potential situation is approaching the brink of war," Kim Sing said during the meeting.
