'War in Ukraine must end no later than 2025'
At a summit in Croatia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that the conflict between Ukraine and Russia must end by 2025.
Zelensky made the statement at a meeting between Ukraine and countries of south-eastern Europe in Dubrovnik.
'The situation on the battlefield creates an opportunity to make this choice – a choice for decisive action to end the war no later than in 2025 and we are counting on President Biden’s leadership, we rely on the strong and wise steps of Britain, France, Germany and Italy to bring security and peace to Europe', he said. 'The situation on the battlefield creates an opportunity to make this choice – a choice in favour of decisive action to end the war no later than 2025.'
The Ukrainian president did not clarify how this end could be achieved and why he sees the opportunity for this now. He did stress, however, that Ukraine's membership in NATO would be a 'real step towards world peace'.
