War in Ukraine: France gets involved

On Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron met with Ukrainian soldiers from Brigade 155. The latter are trained by the French army in eastern France (in a secret area).

A few days before the summit on the defense of Ukraine that will take place in Germany, the French president is determined to strengthen his support for the Ukrainian armed forces.

Last June, France committed to forming "a brigade", that is to say a combat level higher than that of the company, reports Le Figaro, even though Kiev had criticized the training provided by the West, which is deemed as often being disconnected from the reality on the ground. 2,300 soldiers will be trained in the brigade 155 and by the end of the training will be ready to go to the front lines fully equipped. Other soldiers will complete the brigade at a later stage and will be trained by the Ukrainian army in their country.

During the training, the French head of state wants to highlight an often neglected aspect: the “inter-arms” combat, which combines effects and supervision, specifies Le Figaro. According to the Elysée, the training is the result of “discussions with the Ukrainians and the creation of training as close as possible to the conditions in which they are currently engaged”.

French aid goes beyond this brigade since France maintains its deliveries of munitions and Mirage 2000 aircraft (with pilot training).
