Vladimir Putin: He knows the deadline
While the conflict in Ukraine has been dragging on for more than two years, with thousands of soldiers lost on both sides, Vladimir Putin has set 2026 as the year to secure victory in Ukraine.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, the Russian leader aims to defeat Ukraine by 2026 to avoid catastrophic economic, social, and demographic repercussions, as the entire country has been engaged in the war effort since February 2022.
Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, has claimed that 2025 will be a pivotal year for Vladimir Putin, who is currently dealing with men and equipment shortages.
A recent study by the Rand Corporation has revealed that Russia’s strategic decisions on the battlefield, combined with poor treatment of its soldiers, have taken a toll on troop morale.
While the exact number of Russian casualties remains unclear, it is certain that the losses have been significant. The country is still required to recruit more than 100,000 men this fall through another round of conscription.
To replenish the ranks of his decimated army, the Kremlin is offering significantly increased salaries and substantial bonuses for enlistment.
