Urgent, Ukraine is calling for more men

Ukraine needs a mobilization of 500,000 men to be able to win the war against Russia, according to Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Parliamentary Defense Committee, who shared this over the weekend.

Speaking on the Pryamiy channel, Roman Kostenko acknowledged that the number of conscripts declined in September, despite steady recruitment efforts since April and the introduction of a new law.

While the goal was to enlist an additional 200,000 men, Roman Kostenko admitted that this target is unlikely to be met. The Ukrainian military had originally aimed for 500,000 new recruits.

Since the war began in February 2022, the Ukrainian army has struggled to recruit, even with mandatory mobilization in place for all men aged 25 and older.

A recent survey in Ukraine revealed a surge in desertions this year, highlighting the shortage of manpower Kyiv faces.

In contrast, Russia has recently reinforced its forces with thousands of North Korean soldiers. Nevertheless, Ukraine estimates that Moscow has lost over 600,000 men in two years of fighting, though this figure has not been independently verified.
