Under Putin's command, they loot their own country
While Vladimir Putin’s army has reclaimed some areas in Russia’s Kursk region that were previously taken by Ukrainian forces, soldiers are also taking the opportunity to loot from local residents.
The Russian president sent 50,000 troops to the region after Ukraine made a surprise breakthrough along the border last summer, and Kyiv still controls part of the area.
However, Russian soldiers are taking advantage of the situation to line their pockets at the locals' expense.
Residents of the village of Korenevo returned to find their homes had been burglarized and vandalized by Putin’s army. Although Ukrainian forces were nearby, they had not set foot in the village.
Russian forces deployed in the area after ordering civilians to evacuate, and during their absence, soldiers were free to ransack the homes.
One resident filmed the extent of the theft, explaining that everything had been "turned upside down" and that the Russian soldiers’ uniforms and leftover rations left no doubt as to who was responsible.
