UN warns of threat of attacks against Europe
According to Vladimir Voronkov, head of the UN counter-terrorism, the entire of Europe must prepare for a terrorist threat from ISKP, the Afghan branch of the Islamic State.
Given the increase in tension in the Middle East with current actions against Hezbollah, and the various conflicts against Israel, the renewed terrorist risk is increasingly present.
After the cancellation of Taylor Swift's concerts in Vienna following a terrorist threat, Mr. Voronkov had said that ISKP was significantly increasing its influence, notably thanks to the support of the Afghan and Central Asian diaspora.
The group has been infamous since the attack on Kabul airport in 2021 and has carried out or planned several attacks since then, including against Cologne Cathedral and a concert hall in Moscow.
Investigations have not yet been able to establish a link between the planned suicide attack in Vienna and ISKP. Yet the danger posed by this terrorist group remains clear. German security services have been warning for months about the growing danger posed by ISKP.
