War comes to Moscow
This week’s drone strike is one of Ukraine’s largest offensives on Russian territory.
Moscow Region Governor, Andrei Vorobyov, announced on Telegram that a 46-year-old woman died after a drone struck an apartment building in Ramenskoye, a southeastern suburb of the Russian capital.
He also said that three people were injured and taken to hospital. The Russian capital and its surrounding region have been the target of several drone attacks since the Kremlin launched a major offensive in Ukraine in February 2022.
But this is the first time that one of them has been fatal. Kiev is carrying out strikes in response to Russian bombardments that have devastated its territory for more than two and a half years and killed civilians almost daily.
On Monday night, the Russian military claimed on Telegram to have shot down a total of 144 Ukrainian drones, including 20 over the Moscow region.
