Ukrainian ‘witches’ take down Russian drones every night
More and more Ukrainian women are joining mobile volunteer units where their speciality becomes shooting Russian drones out of the sky. This while at the front itself it is still mainly men fighting.
In recent months, Ukrainian women are increasingly joining mobile volunteer units whose main task is to protect Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure from Russian drone attacks. There, they thus act as territorial defence forces making their deployment vital. In the past month alone, for instance, at least 70 women were recruited in Bucha for anti-drone operations. They call themselves ‘the witches of Bucha’, referring to their role of keeping an eye on the night sky.
