Ukraine ready to build nuclear bomb
Ukraine is seriously considering developing its own nuclear bomb if the United States reduces its support in the future.
According to the British newspaper The Times, a memo has already been drafted at the Ministry of Defense suggesting that Ukraine could quickly embark on a project to build a plutonium-based bomb, similar to the one dropped on Nagasaki in August 1945.
The document notes that developing such a bomb would not be a complex task, even 80 years after the original.
The British daily reports that Kyiv lacks the time to build the infrastructure needed for uranium enrichment, which is why it would have to rely on plutonium extracted from spent fuel rods removed from its nuclear reactors.
The article indicates that Ukraine has approximately seven tons of plutonium, which could allow for the production of a number of nuclear warheads.
Recently, Volodymyr Zelenskyy hinted that he is considering the nuclear option if American support wanes in the coming months.
