Thousands of North Korean soldiers deployed to Ukraine
Thousands of North Korean soldiers are undergoing intense training with the aim of being deployed to Ukraine, according to a report by the American NGO Institute for the Study of War.
The organization indicates that Kim Jong Un's troops are expected to be sent to the front lines "by the end of 2024," providing a significant military advantage for Vladimir Putin.
While foreign mercenaries are already fighting alongside both armies, the deployment of North Korean troops would mark a turning point in the conflict's history, as it would be the first time a government officially sends its soldiers.
A source within Ukrainian intelligence informed the organization that "several thousand" soldiers are currently training in Russia.
This news comes amid reports this week that North Korean soldiers were killed by a Ukrainian strike in the Donetsk region.
However, neither South Korea nor Ukraine has confirmed the presence of North Korean soldiers on the front lines, though North Korean engineers are operating in Ukraine, particularly in missile launch operations.
