This crucial aid could change everything in Ukraine
France may send Mirage fighter jets to Ukraine in the first half of 2025.
While Emmanuel Macron hasn’t ruled out the possibility of sending ground troops to Ukraine, Sébastien Lecornu, the French Minister of Armed Forces, revealed that France is expected to deliver several fighter jets to Kyiv.
"Mirage 2000s could be flying in Ukraine in the first half of 2025", he told Sud Ouest.
Earlier this year, the French president promised to deliver Mirage 2000-5 jets to Ukraine, which would help counter Russia's air superiority. Currently, Ukrainian pilots are already flying F-16s supplied by Denmark and the Netherlands.
The minister explained that the fighter jets are being modified to meet Ukraine’s needs, as the Mirage was originally designed for air-to-air combat.
"The aim is to equip them with air-to-ground combat capabilities. And to reinforce their electronic warfare system. But most important of all is the training of pilots and mechanics, which continues in Nancy", he added.
The exact number of fighter jets to be sent remains unknown.
