The UK has abandoned Ukraine

The UK has slowed its support for Ukraine since the Labour Party came to power at 10 Downing Street, lamented former Defense Secretary Ben Wallace.

This week, the British newspaper The Guardian published a detailed article highlighting Ukrainian officials’ frustrations over the slower pace of British aid and the decline in diplomatic relations since Keir Starmer took office last summer.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4, Ben Wallace revealed that some of his former colleagues had advised him against taking too proactive a stance on providing military aid to Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed disappointment that the new British Prime Minister has not visited Kyiv and also pointed out that the UK has not delivered the long-range missiles previously agreed upon.

Since Donald Trump was re-elected in the United States, Ukraine is concerned that the billionaire might reduce or even end the military and financial aid Washington has provided since the conflict began.

Ben Wallace explained that the Conservative Party had been able to provide military resources to Ukraine, helping to build momentum across Europe.

"We took a position to lead and the leadership did bring lots and lots of Europeans with us … I definitely have a sense that that momentum has dropped back," he said. "You have to really do it every single day. You can’t just do a statement and then float around," he added.
