Tensions grow between Moscow and London
Elena Vaelbe Trubitsina, three-time Olympic cross-country skiing champion and now President of the national federation, bitterly deplores the fact that her country has been relegated to the sidelines of international sport.
“Sooner or later, Russia will return to international competitions,” said the President of the Russian Cross-Country Skiing Federation a few weeks ago. The former glory of Russian sport believes that her country should have used force to obtain its reinstatement.
In this regard, her statements are chilling:
“If we had bombed central London, we would already have obtained permission to compete again. Russia has been fighting the outside world for centuries. It has never liked us. And even when it pretends to like us, it has a knife hidden behind its back.”
She concludes:
“I like the idea of a strong state, and it's fair to say that our power irritates the whole world.”
