September deadliest month for Russians since conflict began

For the fifth month in a row, Russia has suffered more than 1,000 casualties a day in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. September is the deadliest month for Russia since the start of the war.

With 1,271 dead and seriously injured per day in September, the Russian military continues to record heavy losses. September is thus taking an even greater toll on the Russian army than May this year, so far the deadliest month with 1,262 dead and seriously injured per day.

According to Britain's Ministry of Defence, Russia already suffered over 648,000 casualties among its soldiers since the invasion began.

The UK ministry attributes the rise in casualties since May 2024 to the expansion of the combat zone due to military operations in Kharkiv and Kursk and fiercer intensity along the front line.

Analysts see many casualties particularly due to Russian infantry techniques where many soldiers are mowed down in open fields.
