Russian TV chef criticises Putin and is found dead in hotel room
Russian TV chef and restaurateur Alexei Zimin (52) has been found dead in a hotel room in Belgrade, Serbia. He had travelled there to promote his latest book.
The famous Russian TV chef, who ran the renowned ‘Zimin’ restaurant in central London, had spoken out openly against Putin's invasion of Ukraine and had been living in exile in the UK for the past few years.
Financial support for Ukrainian refugees
The Kremlin tried to thwart his career after he spoke out against the regime. His cooking show on Russian channel NTV was discontinued after he was critical of Russia's invasion of Ukraine via social media. ‘Stop the war. Let the soldiers come home,’ he urged.
‘War is not a poker game,’ he wrote on social media just six weeks ago. Incidentally, in March it became known that Zimin was donating part of the profits from his London restaurant to the Red Cross for the relief of Ukrainian refugees.
He was found lifeless in his hotel room in the Serbian capital on Thursday. Serbian authorities reported that there were no suspicious circumstances and that an autopsy and toxicological tests will take place.
