Russia Lagging Behind: This New Weapon Could Change the War's Course
Its name? Palianytsia, in reference to the traditional Ukrainian bun (known to be a difficult word for Russians to pronounce). Its mission? To strike enemy air bases before their planes can even take off.
On August 25, Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the very first use of the Palianytsia on the battlefield. This long-range weapon is called a “drone-missile”; it's powered by a turbojet engine, thus increasing its chances of hitting moving targets on the ground, and has a range of approximately 600 kilometers. This drone-missile is designed and manufactured locally, it doesn't depend on any foreign aid, underlines Korii. Therefore, no restrictions when it comes to attacking targets on enemy territory.
During its first use on August 22, the Palyanytsia demonstrated its full potential by destroying or damaging numerous Russian bombers at the Marinovka air base. And, for the first time since the start of the war, Ukraine managed to produce more long-range combat drones than Russia during the month of July, Korii said.
According to Ukrainian Minister for Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov, the Palyanytsia could truly be a “game changer” in this war. “We will be able to strike Russia where it least expects it,” he told the Associated Press.
