Russia creates starvation in Ukraine
Russia has stolen more than 180,000 tons of grain from the port of Mariupol, in the Donetsk region, since taking control of the port city.
By mid-2023, Russia is believed to have seized nearly 6 million tons of grain from Ukrainian territories annexed by Moscow.
This looting has had disastrous consequences for Ukraine, as well as for the global economy, even though the maritime shipping route through the port of Odessa in the Black Sea remains open despite Russian threats.
According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Russia continues to use food as an "element of aggression."
Despite Russian occupation in the east of the country, Ukraine has managed to export large quantities of grain, as noted by the Prime Minister.
Since the end of the grain deal in July 2023, Kyiv opened a new maritime route the following month, initially intended for the delivery of humanitarian aid, which has since been transformed into a commercial route.
