Putin vs Trump: “Should I get upset?”
On September 5, at the Eastern Economic Forum, the Russian president said that for Russia, Kamala Harris’ victory was desirable, as Trump was the man who imposed “more sanctions on Russia than any president” had done before him.
“Our favorite, so to speak, was the current president, Mr. [Joe] Biden. But then he was withdrawn from the race, but he recommended all his supporters to support Mrs. [Kamala] Harris. So we will do the same,” Vladimir Putin said, smiling.
The next day, at a campaign event in Wisconsin, the Republican candidate responded to these remarks: “I don’t know if I'm offended or if he did me a favor.” He continued: "I knew Putin, I knew him well. The other day, he supported Kamala. It really offended me. I wonder why he supported Kamala. No, he's a chess player. Should I get upset about it? I think it was done, maybe with a smile, I don't know. Who the hell knows"?
It would seem, according to Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, that Putin was not serious in affirming his support for Kamala Harris. "Those who are interested in this abroad should try to understand Putin's tone," he assured.
