Putin opponent killed
A vocal opponent of Vladimir Putin has been killed on the Ukrainian battlefield.
Ildar Dadin, who had been imprisoned in Russia for protesting against the Russian leader, lost his life while fighting alongside Ukrainian forces.
"It is with deep regret that I must inform you that Ildar Dadin died yesterday during combat in the Kharkiv region," wrote his friend and fellow Putin critic, Ilya Ponomarev, on Facebook.
According to the former Russian MP, now living in exile in Kyiv, Ildar Dadin had initially fought with a "Siberian battalion" before joining the "Freedom of Russia Legion," a group of Russians fighting against Moscow.
Dadin’s death has been confirmed by Russian journalist Ksenia Larina, as well as several independent Russian media outlets.
On the battlefield, Russian troops have captured a village near Pokrovsk, marking another territorial gain after retaking the city of Vuhledar earlier in the week.
"Thanks to active and decisive action, units of the Southern military group have liberated the village of Zhelannoye Vtoroye," the Russian Defense Ministry said in its daily report.
