Putin no longer counting on North Korea

A North Korean defector has claimed that the troops sent by Kim Jong Un to support Russia will quickly abandon the fight once they face the realities of the battlefield.

Hyun-Seung Lee, who served in the North Korean army in the 2000s, argued that these soldiers are likely to flee Ukraine as soon as they experience the harsh conditions of combat. He also suggested that Russian forces might use the North Koreans as "human shields."

Currently, 10,000 North Korean soldiers are reported to be fighting alongside Russian troops in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces continue to resist recent offensives.

Hyun-Seung Lee believes the impact of the North Korean troops will be negligible.

"It will be individuals at first, but more like as time passes, I think there'll be like a larger number of group defections, including officers," Hyun-Seung Lee told The Sun.

"Russian soldiers don't respect them as their fellow warriors. They will treat them as their human shields.I think they'll die without any impact. Putin and Kim Jong-un would expect more from them... they won't get the expected results,"  the defector added.
