Putin issues stark warning to Ukraine

Vladimir Putin has vowed to prevent Ukraine from acquiring nuclear weapons after Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that his military no longer uses the Soviet arsenal, as Kyiv seeks to join NATO.

The Russian leader warned that if Ukraine manages to develop a significant nuclear arsenal, Moscow will respond accordingly. "Russia will not let that happen, no matter what," he told reporters.

This week, the Ukrainian president unveiled part of his "victory plan" in Kyiv, explaining that he wants Ukraine to quickly join NATO.

Despite this call, NATO has not commented on Zelenskyy's statements. Its Secretary General, Mark Rutte, argued that the priority should be helping Kyiv reclaim its occupied territories in order to be in a position to negotiate.

Ukraine also hopes to join the European Union, but Hungary may block its accession, as the country's Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, maintains a friendly relationship with Vladimir Putin.
