"Putin isn't going to stop with Ukraine"
German Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, has reiterated that the current offensive against Ukraine is “just the beginning” for Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
Over the years, Russia has been increasing its weapons capacity and could pose a greater threat in the future. “We see that Russia is rapidly increasing its weapons production and significantly increasing its armed forces,” Pistorius told the Lithuanian parliament, where he added that the events in Ukraine should be seen as the “last wake-up call” for the West.
The German minister said that for President Putin, the free and democratic way of life is his real enemy, while he is trying to undermine cohesion between EU member states and NATO countries using hybrid methods such as cyberattacks.
"The German armed forces are on their way to becoming a central pillar of conventional deterrence and defence in Europe," said Pistorius, who also indicated that he was working to get the German government to commit to increasing defence spending beyond 2% of GDP.
