Putin fears Germany will send most destructive weapon

Vladimir Putin may see Germany send a powerful weapon to Ukraine if Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union, is elected Chancellor.

The German politician has also warned that Moscow would have 24 hours to comply with a ceasefire; if the Kremlin fails to do so, he intends to send Taurus long-range missiles to Kyiv.

"Chancellor Scholz has refused to provide Taurus missiles, even as the majority in the Bundestag support it," he explained.

"I would allow Kyiv’s government the authority to state: If the bombing of civilians doesn’t stop within 24 hours, range restrictions on available weapons will be lifted, and, if needed, Taurus missiles would follow a week later. This would give Ukraine the opportunity to regain the upper hand," he added.

Ukraine has been urging Germany to send Taurus missiles for several months, aiming to strengthen its air defenses and gain the ability to strike directly on Russian soil if needed.

Germany’s legislative elections are expected to take place in February amid governmental instability, with a confidence vote already scheduled for next month.
